In their MMK Funeral Services League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Sunday, United Artists collected maximum league points at the expense of Vhembe FET College FC, whom they beat 2-0.
Most of the players of the students were not available for the match, due to the school holidays and, as a result, the students were disorganized from the onset. United Artists wasted numerous scoring chances in the opening minutes.
Realising that Itani Thabelo was not performing well, the technical staff of Vhembe decided to replace him with Talifhani Matange in the 14th minute. Mulweli Malada of Vhembe was the first player to be cautioned with a card. He tackled Maanda Mulaudzi the rough way just outside the penalty box and the referee wasted no time before flashing yellow.
Artists were leading 1-0 at half time. Their opening goal came in the 37th minute. They were awarded a free kick in the 35-meter area and their stalwart defender, Maduvha Mudologi, scored from the set piece.
Artists effected the first change to their starting 11 early in the last half. They introduced Vuwani Masakona and sacrificed Takalani Mulaudzi. United Artists suffered a heavy blow in the 68th minute. Their midfielder, Ndaedzo Mutavhatsindi, was taken to hospital after sustaining a fractured leg, following a tackle from behind by Rocky Legodi. Mutavhatsindi was replaced with Jeffrey Mungoni.
Artists nearly increased the margin in the 80th minute. Witness Khuzwayo went loose from the right corner and unleashed from the edge of the box. The ball hit the side net for a goal kick. United Artists finally did it moments later when Mungoni score with a ground cutter.
