Veteran Dzanani taxi marshal "Chilies Mkharasi" dies

Known for over 40 years of dedication to cleanliness and discipline, his loss is deeply felt by his family, the taxi association, and the wider community.

The well-known taxi marshal of Dzanani II, Rangani “Chilies Mkharasi” Maluleke (78), has died. He passed away at his home on 27 June after a short illness.

Maluleke was widely respected for his dedication to cleanliness and discipline at the taxi rank. Affectionately known as “the clean man”, he consistently encouraged taxi drivers and operators to maintain a clean and orderly environment. He served as a taxi marshal for more than 40 years, earning the respect and admiration of drivers, owners and commuters alike.

Family spokesperson Mr Isaack Maluleke described his death as a great loss to the family.

“He was one of a kind, a unique person who was always ready to help every member of the family and anyone who came to him for assistance. We have lost a great man,” he said.

Taxi owner Mr Ntshenge Mamburu said they were at a loss for words following the death of one of their most dedicated marshals.

“He worked tirelessly for the development of this taxi association, and his contributions will remain for all to see. We have truly lost a giant who was always at the forefront of improving services for our clients,” he said.

The public relations officer of the Dzanani II Taxi Association, Mr Freddy Matshavha, said the association was deeply saddened by the loss of one of its longest-serving members.

“Maluleke was a pillar of our association, and nobody will ever replace him. His commitment, dedication and service to the taxi industry will always be remembered,” he said.

Maluleke will be laid to rest on Saturday, 4 July, in Madombidzha. The funeral service will begin at 06:00 at his home before proceeding to the cemetery.
