The Thohoyandou Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity on Saturday afternoon when Venda Football Academy (VFA) will host Cape Town Spurs (CTS) in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match.
The game is expected to produce fireworks from the first whistle, for a number of good reasons. The visitors from Cape Town must win the game at all costs to keep their title hopes alive. Spurs are currently leading the pack with 53 points. Failure to collect the full points at stake will mean that Spurs will surrender their leadership to either Polokwane City or Casric Stars. Casric Stars and Polokwane City are in the second and third position with 53 and 51 points respectively.
VFA also have every reason to grab the maximum points for the match. A win for VFA will mean that the Thohoyandou side are out of the relegation zone. VFA are lying in the 11th position on the log standings with 31 points.
VFA would have relieved the pressure on them, had they managed to win their game against Uthongathi FC, which was played at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban last Sunday. This match ended in a 1-all draw. VFA's performance improved dramatically after Mr Joel Masutha took over as the head coach of the team about three months ago.
Magesi FC will host Baroka FC in their Polokwane derby that will be played at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Polokwane City will entertain Uthongathi FC at Polokwane's New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The other weekend fixtures are University of Pretoria FC vs MM Platinum, Cape Town All Stars vs JDR Stars, Pretoria Callies vs Casric Stars, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila FC vs Hungry Lions and Platinum City Rovers vs Black Leopards.
