With only a few matches remaining before the end of the season, the going is getting tougher for teams in the Motsepe Foundation Championship League.
After hosting Milford FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, Venda Football Club (VFC) will travel to face another Durban-based side, Midlands Wanderers, at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Sunday.
Both VFC and Wanderers’ futures as Motsepe Foundation Championship affiliates are hanging by a thread. VFC head coach Mr Clinton Larsen is adamant that Maunavhathu will collect enough points in their remaining fixtures to retain their second-tier status for at least another season.
Larsen expressed disappointment that his team’s performances were below par in their previous seven matches before they returned to winning ways with a 2–0 victory over The Bees FC at Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday.
Stopping Tau Rankoko, Anathi Ngwadla and Tshepo Mofokeng will not be an easy task for the Wanderers defence. Rankoko scored Maunavhathu’s opening goal against The Bees last Saturday to become the team’s top scorer.
Black Leopards will entertain Milford FC at Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday. Gomora United and Hungry Lions will test each other’s strength at Malamulele Stadium.
The bottom-placed Baroka FC will host Kruger United at Global Stadium in Lebowakgomo. The match between Upington City and University of Pretoria FC will be played at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington. The other fixtures are The Bees vs Cape Town City, Lerumo Lions vs Highbury and Leicesterford City vs Casric Stars.
