Venda Football Club (VFC) are bracing for a tough Motsepe Foundation Championship League encounter when they visit Kruger United at Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit on Sunday afternoon.
The match is expected to deliver fireworks from start to finish, for several reasons. While a win for Kruger United could secure them a place in the promotional playoffs, the match is a matter of survival for the Thohoyandou-based side. VFC, commonly known as Maunavhathu, must win at all costs to retain their Motsepe Foundation Championship franchise for at least another season.
Should VFC fail to beat Kruger, their survival hopes will hinge on Cape Town Spurs' also losing their match against Durban City. Durban City need only a point from that fixture to be crowned league champions.
Onke Moletshe, Tau Rankoko and Judas Moseamedi will carry VFC's hopes up front on Sunday. Rankoko scored VFC's goal in their 1-1 draw with Casric Stars at Thohoyandou Stadium last Sunday. While Moletshe did not find the net, he proved a constant threat to the Casric Stars defence.
In other fixtures on the final day of the season: Black Leopards will host University of Pretoria FC at Thohoyandou Stadium; Casric Stars will face Hungry Lions at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium in Siyabuswa; Milford FC take on Baroka FC at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban; Orbit College and Leruma United meet at Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg; Pretoria Callies face JDR Stars and Upington City host Highbury FC.
