Venda Football Club (VFC) must at least secure a draw from their Motsepe Foundation Championship League fixture against the University of Pretoria at the Absa Tuks Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday afternoon if they are serious about avoiding relegation this season.
Holding the University of Pretoria to a draw would be a bonus for VFC, given that Amatuks, as they are commonly known, are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. Amatuks are still fresh from a 1-0 victory over Durban City at Chatsworth Stadium in Durban last Friday evening. Before their match against Amatuks, Durban City had been leading the pack.
VFC head coach Mr Vladislav Heric is optimistic that his side will rise to the occasion and upset Amatuks on Sunday. He noted that everyone in their camp was aware of the team's precarious position in the Motsepe Foundation Championship League.
Heric said he had told his players during Monday's training session to consider last Saturday's 0-2 defeat against Orbit College as water under the bridge. VFC, or Maunavhathu as they are affectionately known, are currently anchored at the bottom of the league table with just seven points from nine games.
VFC's Zimbabwean all-rounder, Tatenda Tavengwa, along with Kgothatso Mariba, could pose a real threat to the Amatuks defence if they are not well contained.
