The relationship between Venda Football Club (VFC) and the team's head coach, Mr Duncan Lechesa, is now a thing of the past. Lechesa resigned on Tuesday evening, following the team's poor start to the season, having secured only one point from their first three league matches.

VFC, commonly known as Maunavhathu, began the new season with a 0-2 defeat at the Thohoyandou Stadium against Milford FC. Their second match saw them suffer a 0-1 loss to Cape Town Spurs at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. Last Sunday, they managed a goalless draw at home against Durban City, leaving them without a win.

During an interview on Wednesday morning, the former Polokwane City mentor confirmed his resignation but declined to provide further details. He stressed that the important fact was that he had stepped down.

The 48-year-old coach had joined the Thohoyandou side in November last year, at a time when the team was struggling to avoid relegation. Under his guidance, VFC finished last season in 12th position.

The club's chairman, Mr Itani Munzhelele, confirmed that Lechesa's tenure with VFC had ended. However, it was unclear at the time of our going to press who would take charge of the team for their upcoming match against Leruma United at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Saturday.
