One of the Vhembe-based Vodacom Promotional League clubs, Vhembe FC, has been sold.
This was confirmed by the chairman of the club, Mr Eric Muneri, early this week. Muneri refused to reveal the identity of the person who had bought the franchise of the club.
He indicated that it was premature for him to reveal the identity of the person who had bought the club's status, saying they were still finalising the legal part of the transaction. Muneri said that they had agreed with the buyer that they would not reveal the particulars of the sale until the whole process has been finalized.
Although Muneri would not be drawn into revealing the name of the buyer, he stated that it was safe for him to say that the new owners are based within the Vhembe District. The team was promoted from the SAB League to the Vodacom Promotional League six years ago.
At that stage it was known as Masemola Diarora FC. The franchise was later sold to a Vhembe-based businessman, who renamed it Diarora FC. The late Mr Joseph "Tycoon" Mapfulagasha bought the franchise and ultimately changed the name to All Nation Shining Stars.
When Mr Mapfulagasha passed on two years ago, the franchise was sold to a business consortium led by Muneri. The consortium renamed the club Vhembe FC.
