Grade 12 learners from the Vhembe District in Limpopo will rewrite their first Life Science paper today (Friday) after an exam leak was found at a school in Thohoyandou last month.

The final matric examination period across the country ended last Friday, 27 November.

"Paper 2 will be written on 8 December," said the communications manager of the Limpopo Department of Education, Dr Naledzani Rasila. He says an anonymous letter was being circulated, calling for a boycott. He has condemned any activities aimed at disturbing the smooth running of education in the province.

Two pupils have been identified in the leakage, the Minister of Basic Education, Ms Angie Motshekga, said during a media conference last month. The department has now roped in the police and the State Security Agency to investigate the issue involving two pupils from Marude Secondary School in Thohoyandou.

Rasila said that the department had instituted an investigation team into the leaking of the paper. The team comprises officials from the provincial and national offices, Umalusi, the South African Qualification Authority, SAPS and Hawks. The result of investigation was that the re-writing should take place as arranged. "We are still waiting for a full and complete investigation. It will also include the punitive measures to be implemented to the culprits according to the merit of their cases."

The department said plans for the announcement of Grade 12 results were at an advanced stage. The national results will be announced by Min Motshekga on 5 January 2016 and the provincial results on 6 January by Education MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe.
