Mamu Community Sports Development will host the Vhembe Heritage Day pre-season tournament again this year. During a press conference held at the Hyundai dealers in Louis Trichardt on Saturday, the teams were announced that will be participating in the tournament.
Thabitha Minyuku, the Total Makhado managing director was the guest speaker during the press conference. She promised that Total will continue sponsoring Mamu Community Sports Development in the coming years in an effort to prevent young people from engaging in social ills such as drugs and alcohol. "We are happy because Mamu Community Sports Development is doing a good job and they supply us with a full audited report after their events," she said.
The two-day heritage tournament will be played at the Mabaleng Sports Centre in Tshiozwi village on the 17th and the semi-finals and finals will be played on the 24th of September. Former Orlando Pirates player, Jerry "Legs of Thunder" Skhosana will grace the occasion and he will also identify some of the promising players.
The fixtures are as follows:
09:00: Muraida Youth Development vs Tshaulu Sports Academy
11:00: Makhitha Iya Runga vs Muraleni United Brothers
13:00: Gogobole Bucs vs Madombidzha Western Stars
15:00: Madabani Zoutpansberg Powerline vs Tshiozwi Dynamos.
The winning team will receive R4 000 a floating trophy and 30 gold medals. Madombidzha Western Stars is the defending champion.
Jafter Mamugudubi, Mamu Community Sports Development's general secretary, has invited people to participate in the traditional dance competitions, as well as netball, chess, masters, jumping castle, trampoline, fun run, 100m and 200m.
