Vhembe District Municipality's mayor, Miyelani Chauke, views the upcoming World Kings Boxing Tournament as a vital platform for development, economic growth, and social unity.

The newly elected executive mayor of Vhembe District Municipality, Miyelani Chauke, has described the upcoming world title boxing tournament to be staged in the Vhembe region as more than mere entertainment, calling it a platform for development, economic opportunities and building a healthier, more united society.

Chauke was joined by Thulamela Local Municipality mayor Athongozwidivha Rambuda, dignitaries, and boxing and entertainment enthusiasts at the launch of the World Kings Boxing Tournament at Khoroni Hotel in Thohoyandou on Friday, 22 May. The tournament will be held on 31 July at the Kalahari Waterfront at Nandoni Dam, which has a capacity of 2,500.

“Let us continue to support such initiatives like boxing and also encourage our young people to participate in sport, to dream big and to believe that they too can reach global stages. This event is not just about boxing, it is about partnership, unity and the power of sport to transform lives,” Chauke said. He wished Akani Sambu, the current WBF Intercontinental champion, well in his fight against Kenneth Albino from the Philippines for the WBF World Bantamweight title over 12 rounds.

Event spokesperson Cecilia Molokwane said the World Kings Boxing Tournament is a powerful initiative against gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

Several supporting bouts will also take place on the day, including the Limpopo middleweight title fight between Khensani “Dynamite” Makondo and Khorombi “The Big Dog” Tshikungulu over ten rounds.

Tickets are available on Computicket.
