Vhembe Tron were crowned champions of the Talelani Liguluvhe Pre-season Soccer Tournament played on Sunday at the Ramantsha Grounds.
Three Safa Vhembe league teams from different streams took part in the mini-tournament – Vhembe Tron, Ramantsha Blackpool and Matanda Rockers – with each side playing two matches.
In the opening game, Blackpool drew 1-1 with Rockers. Tron then beat Rockers 2-0 before playing to another 1-1 draw against Blackpool. Tron finished top of the log with four points and went home with R10,000 in prize money. Blackpool ended as runners-up, collecting R7,000, while Rockers pocketed R3,000 for finishing third.
One of the organisers, Desmond Murwampheya, appealed to businesspeople to support local football initiatives. He described the sport as a community-building activity that plays a key role in job creation.
