The Vhembe District Municipality celebrated Women's Day during an event held at the municipal council chamber last Friday. The celebration formed part of Women's Month.
Women dressed in traditional Venda, Tsonga and Pedi attire gathered at the chamber. Their different dress codes represented their culture, while also symbolizing their diversity and unity as people "of the province of peace", Limpopo.
The gathering was also entertained by performances of xibelani, malende, wedding and vintage dances. Ms Victoria Nemavhidi of Daidas Beauty Parlour also advised women about beauty during the event, while Ms Tsheka Mpilo also gave a short presentation about HIV/Aids, while Dr Ndevhe Tshivhase advised women on health issues.
Cllr R Mathuka, who acted on behalf of the executive mayor, encouraged women to emulate the brave women of the 50s by fighting for their rights.
