The young and vibrant firebrand Shaka Munyai, known by thousands of music lovers around the country as Yo Liwa Yo Liwa, had fans on their toes for at least two hours when she performed at Lufheleleni Rest in Tshiseluselu on Thursday night (1 September).
When this inimitable diva followed her three backup singers, who were somersaulting onto the makeshift stage like martial artists, the huge crowd went berserk. With the confidence of an international superstar, Shaka belted out one hit after another, making more than 3000 fans in attendance scream for more.
Shortly after her performance, she agreed to an interview with Limpopo Mirror. She told the reporter that she spends two hours every day at the gym, working on her body and to stay fit, so that she can perform at her best without getting tired too quickly.
Shaka said that she had been around for some time, but mostly as a backup singer. "I released my debut album in 2016, but this was not received well by music fans at all. I had to work very hard from there on," she said.
In February this year, she released her latest album, called Yo Liwa, which is still doing exceptionally well in the market. Yo Liwa Yo Liwa is the title track on this album, and fans just do not seem to be getting enough of it.
Shaka was born at Dzimauli village almost 22 years ago and started singing in the church choir. She was also invited to sing at birthday parties, so it can be said that she started entertaining from a very young age.
When asked about her future in this dog-eat-dog industry, she replied that this was only the beginning for her and that she planned on releasing many more albums in the future.
