More than 30 pupils collapsed when the coffins of two of their friends and an adult were lowered into their graves during a mass funeral at Tshavhalovhedzi on Saturday.

The three, who died after being run over by a speeding car, are Richard Munyai (39), Fhulufhelani Tshiuda (16) and Gudani Nenungwi (12).

The chairperson of the civic association of Tshavhalovhedzi Village, Mr Thomas Mawela, said they are going to submit a request to the MEC for Roads and Transport, Lehlogonolo Masoga, to dispatch more traffic officials to the Tshavhalovhedzi road or to install speed bumps.

"The Department of Transport should also put pedestrian crossing marks and stop signs to avoid problems of motorists knocking down people," said Mawela.

The MEC, Lehlogonolo Masoga, advised motorists to refrain from driving at excessive speeds and driving under the influence of alcohol. He further appealed to all road users to obey all the rules of the road as this will go a long way in reducing carnage on the roads.
