In their MMK Administrators League match at the Vondwe grounds on Sunday, Vondwe XI Bullets rose to the occasion and held Ngwenani Manchester United to a thrilling 1-1 draw.
Bullets were nowhere to be seen in the first 25 minutes of the game. At that stage, United could have scored an avalanche of goals, but their strikers showed no appetite for goals. It took the visitors from Ngwenani 18 minutes to take the lead. A scramble within the box gave rise to a brilliant goal by Arina Mulaudzi. He unleashed a powerful half-volley from the penalty mark.
Manchester United continued to create some promising moves from behind, with their strikers fumbling with the ball at the goal finish. Realizing that their scoring chances were slim, Bullets introduced Elekanyani Munandi for Mmbofheni Kone in the 24th minute. Munandi's introduction marked the turning point of the game. Bullets started to play attacking football soon afterwards.
The referee, Mr Khamusi Razwimisani, warned Konanani Muhali of Bullets with a card in the 29th minute. Muhali obstructed Shumani Netshitungulu just outside the box. The home side found the equalizer nine minutes before the half-time whistle. Khodani Makhani made no mistake after receiving a great pass from Gudani Ndou, who came on as a substitute for Konanani Muhali. Manchester United lost cohesion in the middle of the park towards the end of the first half.
United created several scoring opportunities, but also squandered them. They came close to scoring their second goal in the 67th minute. Their captain, Tshimangadzo Matamela, miskicked the ball from the edge of the box.
