One of the most loved reggae musicians in the country, Khakhathi Tshisikule, known by music fans as Murida or Khakhathi and Friends, has recorded his latest album called "Rifhe Maanda," which literally translates as "Give Us Power." He says the album will be released on Friday (24th).

The album was recorded at Burning Studios in Thohoyandou and features Colbert Mukwevho, Jimmy "The Scratcher" Netshilulu, and Pastor Tshifhiwa Baloyi and was produced by Mulalo Mukwevho.

Khakhathi is a Vhembe artist who sings about matters that affect community members on a daily basis. He is also a well-known local government critic, businessman, pastor, musician, and politician.

Tshisikule was the first artist in the Vhembe region to record music that openly criticised the failures of the Thulamela Municipality in the early 2000s. Some of his songs were so candid that they were banned from SABC radio. One track in particular (which was recorded long before load shedding was implemented) referred to the municipality's failure to provide water and electricity to the people.

"The reason why some of my songs do not get airplay on SABC radio is because they feel I am fighting the government. The fact is, I use my music to fight injustice, corruption, and nepotism," he said.

The straight-talking musician was born in Mbaleni, Sibasa, in 1972 and recorded his very first album, "Zwi Mandlozini," in 1999.
