Wesley wins Land of Legend

The Kenian-borned Wesley Mutahe won the annual Land of Legend Marathon from Thohoyandou to Wildlife Mphephu resort.

The Kenian-borned Wesley Mutahe won the annual Land of Legend Marathon from Thohoyandou to Wildlife Mphephu resort on Saturday..

The marathon race produced fireworks as last year´s overall winner, Brighton Chipere of Zimbabwe, was beaten by the speedy Mutahe. Mutahe won the race in 2:28:45. Chipere ended in second position and he ran 2:29:07. The third position went to Kgosimang Leburu, who finished the race in 2:32:40.

The masters category was won by Simon Phaiphai of RAC in 3:18:52. Joel Manwadu came second in 3:24:24. MT Mbombi of Greater Elim Athletics Club finished in the third position in 3:27:07.

The grandmasters category was won by GE Hlungwane of Malamulele in 3:56:20. The ladies category was won by last year´s winner, Mpho Mabuza of the Nedbank Athletics Club in Gauteng in 2:58:50. She was followed by Lizih Chiboke from Zimbabwe in 3:01:44. The well-known local runner, Azwinndini Lukwareni, finished the race in the third position. She ran the race in 3:09:30. Veteran runner Jane Mudau won her category in 3:24:37.

The 21,1km race for men was won by Zimbabwean Edwin Chimobo of Zimbambwe in 1:09:40. Millen Matende, also from Zimbabwe, came second in 1:10:19. Kipkoech Chirchir from Kenya ended in third position in 1:10:49.

The veteran category was won by Thomas Ngobeni of Great Elim in 1:21:19. Jerane Qcaba of Bidvest ended in second position in 1:29:45. AM Mudau of Messina Athletic club finsihed in third position, about five and a half minutes behind Qcaba.

The 21,1km ladies race was won by last year´s winner, Muchaneta Gwata from Zimbabwe in 1:24:30. Olivia Chitati, also from Zimbabwe, finished second and Joyce Makwarela was inthird position.
