Madombidzha Western Stars fought hard for their 1-0 victory over Magau United in the final match of the Shewemasto tournament that was played at Tshikhwani grounds on Sunday.
United squandered countless scoring opportunities throughout the game. Their striker, Hector Mabasa, could not live up to the fans' expectations as a scoring machine as he was tightly marked.
The keeper of United, Mulweli Murudu, made his presence felt in the 19th minute. Murudu defended Thabelo Mulaudzi's close-range volley and palmed the ball away for a corner kick.
Stars' all-important goal came in the 34th minute when Marubini Mushukwa blasted in a rocket from inside the box.
The second half saw United commit more blunders. Their right winger, Phumudzo Mudimeli, caused an upset in the 50th minute. He unleashed a shot aimlessly from inside the box instead of taking his time to pick his spot.
United had a stroke of bad luck in the 86th minute when Lennox Kgamedi's penalty shot went into the hands of the keeper in the dying minutes of the game.
