This weekend will be a busy one for the teams competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship League. After dropping points to Casric Stars with a 0-1 loss at the Thohoyandou Stadium last Saturday, Black Leopards will travel to face Orbit College FC at the Olympia Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday.
Lidoda Duvha must secure all three points from the match to stay in the race for promotion. The Thohoyandou side dropped from third to seventh on the log after Saturday's defeat to Casric Stars.
Black Leopards' head coach, Mr Maxwell Konadu, is confident that nothing will stop them from beating Orbit College on Sunday. He said that Leopards had dominated possession against Casric Stars but had been unable to beat their goalkeeper.
Konadu said that he had told his players after the match against Casric Stars that playing entertaining football without scoring goals might please the spectators, but it was not helpful for a team aiming for promotion by the end of the season.
Despite being in the middle of the 16-team log, Leopards are only three points behind the leaders, Milford FC. A victory could potentially see them rise to the top of the standings. However, underestimating Orbit College could be a costly mistake.
Currently in 11th place with four points, the students registered their first win last Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Highbury FC at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. Orbit College boasts several highly experienced players, including Tswarelo Bereng, Thabang Munyembane, and Ayanda Lukhele.
