His love of rap music during his primary years earned 23-year-old Patson Thalutshedzo Maphosa, now fondly known as Wizzy Kays, his status in the community he lives in.
Maphosa was born and bred in Musina. He discovered his talent when he was in the seventh grade at St Martin Primary School in Musina. At the age of 15, Maphosa emulated many Venda artists' songs. "I feel like this thing is in my blood. All I remember is that, when I was still young, I used to sing and perform other well-known artists such as Una Rina's songs, till I realised one day that I could write my own song," he said.
He loves freestyle music. In 2017, he rubbed shoulders with a like-minded friend, and they recorded their first song, called Dam Dam. "We discovered that the community loved the song. This encouraged me to really put more effort into rapping," he said.
In 2020, Maphosa recorded his first eight-track album, Music On, which secured him an interview with local radio station Musina FM. The year 2020 was spectacular for him as he released his hit song, Success Motion. "After the interview, I noticed that many people now followed me on my Facebook page, while others preferred to chat with me on WhatsApp," said Maphosa.
Last year, he featured in the Mascots and Kids Summer Festival, hosted at Musina Faranani Lodge.
Everything is not just glorious for the singer, however. Funding to get their music recorded is a great concern for some artists, and he is not exempt from this problem. He encourages local communities to invite him to events.
