Some of the Vhembe region's top artists will be displaying their work during an art exhibition held at Thavhani Mall. The exhibition officially opened on Thursday (8th) and will continue until the end of October. The work of the artists will also be on sale.
The artists whose work will be exhibited include sculptors such as Tshivhangwaho Hendrik Nekhofhe. He mainly works from his home studio where he specialises in woodcarving. He is known for the intricate detail of the figures that he creates.
Avhashoni Mainganye's work can also be seen. He writes poetry and works as a photographer, painter, printmaker, and sculptor. The third artist is Takalani Ligege, who creates beautiful impressions of nature in all its seasons and moods.
Matamela Mishack Raphalalani is another of the region's well-known wood sculptors whose work will be on display. He lives in Tshakhuma Village and has turned part of his house into a working studio where he does most of his wood sculptures.
Pfano Bebeda is a Tshandama-village-based artist who works mainly in wood and steel as his media. His focus is mainly on faces and textures.
Mudinda Innocent Maumela is currently working at the Matongoni Art Academy under the watchful eye of Avhashoni Mainganye. In 2019, he participated in the Limpopo Provincial exhibition hosted by the Polokwane Museum.
The exhibition is organised by Art Margins NPC, an organization whose main purpose is to assist artists. Mr Takalani Ligege, Dr Thulani Zulu and Ms Vhudzani Mavhina, the directors of the organisation, have vast experience in creating, managing, and coordinating art projects varying in scope.
The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 10:00 to 15:00.
