The sound of praise echoed across Lwamondo on Saturday evening, 18 July, as hundreds of worshippers gathered for the 2026 edition of Worship Around the Fire, an event that has rapidly evolved into one of Limpopo's most anticipated gospel gatherings.
The event was characterised by a vibrant atmosphere, powerful worship and an impressive line-up of artists, creating a memorable experience that left many convinced the annual gathering had entered a new era.
Headlined by gospel heavyweights Sipho “Big Fish” Makhabane, Rofhiwa Manyaga, Gundo Gee, Ngudo Praise, Itani Mphaga, Newie and Gundo Nemukula, the event attracted worshippers from across Limpopo and other provinces. It also gave local artists a platform to minister alongside some of South Africa's most celebrated gospel performers.
Project spokesperson Hulisani Mavhutha said the success of this year's gathering was built on lessons learnt from the previous two editions.
“We also ensured a balanced programme featuring gospel legends, established artists, emerging talent and performers from outside Limpopo,” he said.
According to Mavhutha, Worship Around the Fire has exceeded all expectations since its launch in 2024.
“When we launched the project, we believed it would grow, but the rate at which people have embraced and supported it is beyond what we expected by the third year,” he said.
Despite the calibre of musicians on stage, Mavhutha emphasised that the event's primary purpose remains winning souls for Christ.
“Our primary goal is to spread the Word of God through repentance, revival and the restoration of the church. We trust that the messages preached touched many lives.”
Looking ahead, Mavhutha said the organisers aim to transform Worship Around the Fire into a provincial gospel celebration involving churches from across Limpopo while attracting even more nationally acclaimed artists and growing audiences in the years ahead.
