A 49-year-old man was fatally stabbed at a liquor outlet in Tshiozwi village following an argument. The suspect was arrested, and the incident highlights growing concerns about violence at local taverns.

In yet another stabbing incident, a 49-year-old man was stabbed to death at a local liquor outlet in Tshiozwi village, in the Tshilwavhusiku policing area, on Saturday, 1 March.

According to Vhembe police spokesperson Capt Vuledzani Dathi, the incident occurred at about 22:00. An argument allegedly broke out between the deceased, Stephens Ramaligela, and a 25-year-old suspect, leading to a violent fight at the tavern. Ramaligela was stabbed in the chest and back with a sharp object and died at the scene.

“When the police arrived, the victim was lying on the ground. We were alerted by members of the community who witnessed the incident,” said Dathi. The suspect was arrested the following day and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, 3 March.

The deceased man’s sister, Ms Dorcus Ramaligela, said the family was devastated. “We are heartbroken by this tragedy. We hope the investigation will reveal what had happened,” she said.

Vhamusanda Vho Vhathundimapfura Makhado Sinthumule said the incident again raised serious concerns about the number of fatal stabbings at local liquor outlets in recent times involving young people. He urged young people to avoid frequenting liquor outlets and instead focus on their studies.
