A 27-year-old man arrested for stabbing a 24-year-old to death during a drinking binge at Phiphidi village on Sunday morning appeared in the Thohoyandou Magistrate's Court on Monday.
The suspect, Netshitangani Ramukosi, was allegedly drinking at a local liquor outlet when a heated argument broke out between him and the deceased, Mpho Ravhura (24) from Ngovhela village. During the altercation, Ramukosi is said to have produced a sharp object and stabbed Ravhura.
According to Acting Communication Manager of the SAPS in the Vhembe District W/O Vuledzani Dathi, the police were alerted but arrived at the scene after the victim had already been taken to Ngovhela Clinic. He was later transferred to Tshilidzini Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dathi confirmed that Ravhura had been stabbed once in the chest. Ramukosi was later arrested and appeared in court on Monday, where his case was postponed to Friday, 14 March.
When he appeared in court, Ramukosi was represented by Adv R.C. Tshikovha. Speaking briefly to Limpopo Mirror after the postponement, Tshikovha indicated that they were likely to apply for bail at Ramukosi's next court appearance.
"We know the case has been postponed for profiling, but we are definitely going to submit a bail application on Friday," he said.
