The peaceful village of Maungani outside Thohoyandou in Saturday had a rude awakening when a mutilated body was found on the street.
The body of an unknown woman in her late twenties was found by a passer-by early on Saturday.
The partly naked body with parts of the face, the oesophagus and part of the left breast missing, seemed to have been killed somewhere and dumped in the village.
Within a short space of time, residents from around the village and surrounding villages had gathered at the scene to have a glimpse of the mutilated body.
In recent months, Limpopo, more especially Vhembe region has experienced several people disappearing and killed by suspected body parts merchants.
Calls including an appeal by Vhavenda King Toni Mphephu Ramabulana have been made for an end to the killings but the scourge continues unabated.
Many questions are being asked as to who is behind the senseless and barbaric killings.
Limpopo Mirror will stay on the story and report the latest as soon as it becomes available.
