Rambuda Young Fighters were crowned the champions of the Pink House Soccer Tournament at the Dzimauli Tshakhumba grounds last Saturday.
Four teams, Rambuda Young Fighters, Tshandama Try Together, Ficus FC and Folovhodwe Stone Breakers, took part in the one-day event. Try Together were invited to be part of the tournament at the 11th hour after Mutuwa Brazilians pulled out of the tournament a day before the event.
Young Fighters were presented with R1 200 during a ceremony held at the grounds shortly after the final whistle. The team from Dzimauli beat Ficus FC 1-0 in the final. The runners-up were presented with cash prize of R1 000.
Rambuda Young Fighters' way to the final went via Tshandama Try Together, whom they beat 6-2 in their semifinal match, which was played at the same venue earlier that day. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out as the score was 1-1 when the regulation time came to an end.
In the other semifinal match, Ficus FC beat Folovhodwe Stone Breakers 5-4. This one also reached the penalty shoot-out stage after a 1-1 full-time score.
During the prize-giving ceremony, the sponsor, Mr Livhuwani Nethengwe from Pink House Restaurant, said that he was impressed with the manner in which the tournament was organized. According to him the tournament will become an annual event, with the sponsorship increasing from time to time.
