A young photographer from Ngovhela village, Rofhiwa "Rofhza Photography" Nemungadi, has turned a natural talent into a thriving business and is urging other young people to create their own opportunities rather than wait for jobs. The 34-year-old recently celebrated his birthday and reflected on his journey from an unemployed youth to a well-known photographer and videographer in the Vhembe District.

"I used to find young people complaining that there are no jobs, but I decided to create job for myself through my brand company known as Rofhza Photography," he said. "Today, I can make money myself as customers used to call me during parties, funerals, graduation among others and is better to do on your own, rather than begging people and also live out of handouts."

After completing Grade 12 in 2013, Nemungadi studied marketing management at Vhembe TVET College. In 2014, he worked for a year at New Vision Photography in Thohoyandou, where he learned the basics of the craft. Using the money he earned, he bought his own camera equipment and launched Rofhza Photography.

As the business grew, Nemungadi expanded into décor services, jumping-castle hire, chairs and tent rentals. He has since employed a woman who now assists him in the business. "Within five years from now, Rofhza Photography wants to reach the sky," he said, encouraging other young people to "start creating jobs themselves."

He believes his success comes from talent and dedication rather than formal training. "I never studied photographic and video production anywhere, but it was a natural talent … I then mastered my skill there and I have never looked back," he said.

Nemungadi is now mentoring young people in videography and photography and hopes they will also build their own businesses.
