Self-taught photographer Thuso Cam Media transitioned from mechanical engineering to a successful career capturing sports, weddings, and events. He uses photography as a powerful form of expression and now teaches others to empower them with new skills.

Thuso Magandi, known professionally as Thuso Cam Media, describes himself as a self-taught photographer and graphic designer who is quickly making a name for himself.

The Tshiendeulu Lwandali resident studied Mechanical Engineering, earning an N4 Diploma from the Northern Cape Urban TVET College in Kimberley. Despite his formal training, his passion led him into sports and media in 2021, where he began photographing local football matches and building his career from the ground up.

Magandi developed a love for photography at an early age and has pursued it as a career ever since. His first camera helped him hone his skills, and he is now known in various sports circles for his skilful photographs. He also takes photos at weddings and parties.

“Initially, I didn’t have enough equipment to get the job done, but as time went by, things improved,” he said.

Magandi explained that photography allows him to see the world from a different perspective, tell unique stories through the lens, create art, and meet different people along the way.

“Photography is more than just taking pictures of things and people for me. I find it hard to express myself in words, so photography is a channel I use to convey my feelings,” he said.

He is now teaching other young people photographic skills, hoping they will use them to create their own opportunities in the future.
