A member of the South African Police Service lost his life when his car collided head-on with a minibus taxi transporting learners at Gundani last Friday morning.
Reportedly, some of the learners in the Toyota Quantum taxi sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Donald Fraser Hospital for medical attention.
Warrant Officer Vuledzani Dathi, the acting communications manager of the South African Police Service in Vhembe District, stated that the police at Mutale were investigating a case of culpable homicide after a VW Polo had collided head-on with a minibus taxi along the Gundani public road.
"It is alleged that the deceased, Constable Muzila Rinae (33) of Thengwe Matshetshete, was driving his Polo to work (Muswodi SAPS) when he lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with the Quantum," he said.
He added that the police officer had been taken to the Donald Fraser hospital but had been certified dead on arrival. The driver of the minibus and his passengers with injuries were also taken to the hospital.
