A young resident of Phadzima was struck by lightning last Wednesday night.

A young resident of Phadzima was struck by lightning last Wednesday night.

Victor Mulaudzi (17) died instantly after being struck by a sudden lightning bolt. He was a Grade 8 scholar at the Humbelani Secondary School.

"The incident took place at about 16:00. When we arrived at the scene, the young man was lying dead on the ground," said the spokesperson for the Siloam SAPS, W/O Edward Tharaga.

The young man's aunt, Ms Norah Musiamo, said the family members were still in shock and they were battling to come to terms with what had happened. Norah told Limpopo Mirror that Victor wanted to become a policeman. He was the youngest son and is survived by two sisters and two brothers. Their parents died some 10 years ago.

The family have no money to bury him and his unemployed brothers are now appealing to members of the community to assist them.

Cllr Richardt Thandavahathu described the young man as a brave young soldier. "We only have to accept it, because we cannot change the situation. The death of this young man is synonymous with a flowering tree that loses flowers that were supposed to turn into fruit," Thandavhathu added.

People who can assist the family can contact them at 073 7069632. The burial is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Saturday).
