Young woman killed by crocodile

The police in the Mopani Area are investigating several cases following incidents that took place in the area over the past weekend.

BOLOBEDU – The police in the Mopani Area are investigating several cases following incidents that took place in the area over the past weekend.

In the first incident a crocodile killed a young woman on Saturday afternoon.

According to police spokesperson in the Mopani area, Capt Moatshe Ngoepe, the deceased was busy fishing with friends in the Letaba River when the incident took place. According to the statement the crocodile grabbed her from the riverbank while fishing.

The crocodile pulled her into the water and severed her limbs. Her friends went home to inform members of the community about the incident. People took a little longer to arrive at the scene. Upon arrival they found the deceased's body floating in the water.

The body was taken to the police mortuary. In a separate incident police have opened a murder case in Bolobedu following an incident that took place in Rabitsi Village near the Bolodebu area on Sunday morning at about 01:00.

According to police spokesperson in the area Capt Moatshe Ngoepe the suspect paid her girlfriend a visit the night before the incident. An argument started between the suspect and the deceased, (girlfriend) during the night.

During the argument the suspect left the room and went outside. The statement further indicates that the suspect allegedly doused the house in which the deceased was sleeping with petrol and later set it alight. The deceased and her two daughters were burnt to ashes during the incident. The deceased was identified as Mrs Carlifonia Maila (35) while her daughters are Jenine (11) and Christine (15). The suspect was still at large at the time of going to press.
