Tawineeyi Kunaka had an amount of US$700, worth about R4 700, in his possession.
Kunaka wanted to exchange the money for South African Rands when the counterfeit notes were detected. The Makhado police were informed and arrested the suspect.
Kunaka appeared on June 6 in the Soutpansberg Magistrate’s Court. His case was postponed until June 14. Insp. Ndwamato Vele, spokesperson for the local SAPD, warned banks in town to be vigilant, as this may not be the only suspect having counterfeit notes in his possession.
