According to the spokesperson of the Thohoyandou police, Insp Nkanukeni Raedani, the incident took place at the suspect’s home. The statement further indicates that on the day of the incident the deceased proceeded to the suspect’s kraal to demand the money that the suspect was owing to him.
On arrival at the suspect’s home, the two became engaged in a heated argument.
Nevumbani had allegedly told the deceased that he was not longer prepared to pay him back his money. During the argument, he allegedly produced a panga. The deceased started to run away and Nevumbani allegedly chased him. He then allegedly stabbed the man twice in the chest and in the back.
The deceased fell down, as he was bleeding severely at that stage. He later died at the scene.
Nevumbani was arrested the following day. He was not asked to plead when he appeared in court. He will be in custody until the next court date, November 5, as his bail application was turned down. The deceased’s identity will only be released after the police have located his next of kin. The deceased is a 26-year-old resident of Zimbabwe.
