Zwivhuya Mashimbyi (24) from Nthabalala, a determined and ambitious model/businesswoman, is ready to take the stage by storm as she competes for the coveted title of Miss Essence SA. She was recently selected among the top 20 finalists and is now preparing for the crowning ceremony, which will be held at Meropa Sun in Polokwane on 29 July.
Zwivhuya is also a nail technician, makeup artist, and hairdresser. She firmly believes in empowering women, and she has a passion for uplifting herself and those around her.
Zwivhuya has always dreamed of participating in beauty pageants. "I entered for Miss South Africa in 2019, but didn't make it through. Looking back now, I regard it as a blessing. I didn't let that setback discourage me. Instead, I worked hard to build a name for myself, grow personally, and gain the confidence that is needed to pursue my dreams," she said.
The Miss Essence SA beauty pageant was established by popular musician Henny C, in partnership with Meropa Sun, with the aim of celebrating the power in every woman.
Zwivhuya says that what sets her (and anyone else for that matter) apart is embracing her individuality. While she does not have formal education in fashion design yet, she plans to study it in future as it aligns perfectly with her business ventures.
Beyond her aspirations in the pageant, Zwivhuya has also taken initiative in her community. She started a project called "Self-Discovery" even before she entered for the Miss Essence SA pageant. She gathers a group of young kids to mentor them and helps them define their purpose within the community. "I also teach them the word of God and provide entertainment through singing. This initiative serves as a positive influence to keep these young individuals off the streets and help them find direction at an early age," she said.
