Thousands of children and adults recently attended the annual children's festival, which aims to cater for children's entertainment and create cultural stimulation among children.
The Mascot and Kidz Festival 2018 was held at the Mphephu Resort and attracted more than 8 000 fun lovers from within and beyond the Vhembe district. The festival was hosted by VCC Music.
VCC Music's managing director, Mr Tshilidzi Bobodi, said that they were pleased with the massive attendance and the positive reports from both participants and attendees. “The festival, through its diverse activities, aims to stimulate children's minds in villages, townships, crèches and pre-schools,” he said. “As a build-up to the festival, we visit crèches and pre-schools where we also donate books and toys.”
The Mascot and Kidz Festival 2018's activities excited the children and kept them busy by involving them on the stage alongside mascots, caretakers and entertainers who included, among others, Vha Vee, Bundu, Makhadzi, Dr Malinga, and Huli Hula Hulest.
“Dr Malinga was spot on when he advised children to focus on school and never get involved in substance abuse and violence in the schools,” said Bobodi. “We arranged a simple food voucher competition and hosted a race where many children participated and enjoyed themselves.”
Tshilidzi Bobodi said the mascot activities were both stimulating and educational to children. He said children needed to get exposed to positive fun from an early age. “We still need to find more ways or activities to entertain our children because if we do that, we definitely minimise possible exposure to negative activities that might lead them astray,” he said.
