Many residents of Limpopo and its outskirts are gearing up for the annual Mapungubwe Festival at the Polokwane Cricket Club tomorrow (Saturday).
Last Saturday, the youth festival went well and attracted many music lovers.
This Saturday’s event is regarded as the main festival and, according to the organisers, it is one of the premier cultural events depicting music and lifestyle events in the province.
The festival will host some of the biggest names in the South African talent pool, including some of the best artists that Limpopo has to offer. The MEC for Sports Arts and Culture, Thandi Moraka, added that “the festival has been the apple of our eyes, seeing its growth and how it had placed Polokwane on the map, has been fulfilling. Nothing beats the unity of the people of Limpopo as they have been welcoming and enjoying with us all these years”.
According to her, Limpopo is the heartbeat of the nation when it came to minerals and music. “This is the perfect place to set yourself free, let loose to the biggest and best sounds from African acts across the board.”
Setting the stage alight will be: Dr Colbert Mukwevho, Shekinah, Jonas Gwangwa, King Monada, Benny Mayengani, Makhadzi, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi, Dr Malinga, Lady Zamor, Joe Shirimani, Benny Mayengani, Steve Kekana, Selaelo Selota, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuza and many more.

Makhadzi is expected to be a crowd puller.

The revival of Tshivenda traditional music is not just the pipe dream of some idealists. Judging by the turnout during a meeting held in Thohoyandou this past weekend, this form of music is about to undergo a major revival.
Tshivenda traditional-music lovers are in for a treat with a collaboration between Tshivenda traditional music legend and veteran Solomon Mathase and popular poet and guitarist Dzomo la Venda. The two were spotted on Saturday, 20 April, at a function in Thohoyandou where they showcased their talents during a live performance.
During a Sunday sermon, Bishop Johannes Muofhe of the World Mission Church’s Fondwe branch prophesied that a musician, someone other than a member of the worship team, would emerge from the church.
With a successful roots-reggae album titled “Shandukani” to his name, Fhatuwani Richard Mashele is quickly becoming a household name in South African music. Better known as Jah Saint in music circles, Mashele believes that success does not come overnight and that one must work hard to earn it.
