Film enthusiasts and students from across Limpopo will gather under one roof this festive season for an inspiring celebration of creativity and storytelling during the inaugural Limpopo Student Film Festival, which will take place at the Library Gardens in Polokwane from 5 to 6 December. The festival will showcase many of Limpopo’s upcoming talents.
The event’s director, Mr John Pheko Maphakela, emphasised the significance of the festival: “Hosting a film festival in Limpopo is vital for nurturing local talent and diversifying the South African film landscape. This festival offers students a unique platform to showcase their work, learn from industry professionals, and open doors to future careers in film. The event will feature a series of masterclasses led by some of the industry’s finest professionals. These workshops will engage learners and provide valuable insights into the world of film, enabling students to hone their craft.”
Maphakela added that student filmmakers’ work from various regions will be screened, offering diverse perspectives and creative storytelling. “The highlight of the event will be an awards ceremony to recognise outstanding achievements in various categories, including Best Directing, Best Film, Best Sound Design, Best Lighting, and Best Cinematographer. The opportunity to win these awards serves is an incentive for student filmmakers to push the boundaries of their creativity and produce exceptional work. We call on all Limpopo’s creatives to be part of this initiative,” Maphakela said.
