Several people who are regarded as community builders in different categories were honoured by the mayor of the Thulamela Municipality, Cllr Avhashoni Tshifhango, during a gala dinner ahead of the Thulamela Annual Show.
The event took place in the 2Ten Hotel in Sibasa last Tuesday evening.
The categories of the awards included sports, artists, business, local government and liberation stalwarts. Those who received awards included Mr David Thidiela for outstanding performance in sports, Mr George Magwabeni for business, Mr Colbert Mukwevho for music, the late Mr George Phadagi for local government and Cllr Rathivhanda Ndou, a liberation stalwart.
Cllr Tshifhango said the local municipality needed to reward hardworking people who were also contributing to the development of communities.
The event was also organized to give publicity to the Thulamela Annual Show that started on Thursday and will end on Saturday. “This annual show is an opportunity to showcase our diverse heritage and display various products and services offered by the municipality. It will also demonstrate available economic investment and business opportunities and bring families together to celebrate our heritage,” said Tshifhango.
He added that they wanted the show to be an event where families, children and businesspeople could have fun and enjoy different cultures within Thulamela. “We are also looking at new ways to add value, not only for our exhibitors but also for our visitors. Our biggest wish for the show is to attract all types of people, because it is an ideal platform for brands to grow awareness of their products and services,” he added.
