Killed for drinking someone else's beer

 

A 31-year-old man passed away in the Donald Frazer Hospital on Monday morning, after he was allegedly assaulted for drinking someone's beer without permission.

According to the police spokesperson from the provincial office, Lt-Col Ngoatshe Ngoepe, the incident happened at Matangari Tshiawelo last Saturday (2nd). "It happened at the Vhukavhamvula Tavern at about 1:30. It is alleged that the deceased, Lindelani Nenngwekhulu (31), and the suspect, a 26-year-old man, were drinking beer at the tavern. The suspect allegedly left his beer and went outside and Nenngwekhulu took it.”

According to Ngoepe, it is alleged that when the suspect came back, he assaulted the deceased with his fists and kicked him. “It is also alleged that he dragged the deceased out of the tavern and continued to assault him. On his way home, the deceased struggled to walk and he was taken to Donald Frazer Hospital for treatment,” Ngoepe added. 

He passed away at about 10:00 on Sunday morning.

Ngoepe said the suspect was arrested on Monday and at the time of our going to press, he was expected to appear in the Mutale Magistrate's Court.
