Deadly catfight at Makhushu bar

In one of the most unusual cases to happen in the Mphephu policing area, a 40-year-old woman was arrested on charges of murder and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) after she had allegedly attacked her two cousins.

The arrest of Miss Beauty Muleya (40) and her subsequent appearance in the Dzanani Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 28 November, follows an incident on Saturday, 25 November, at about 02:30. The trio, along with other patrons, were enjoying drinks at a local bar in Makushu village. However, what was supposed to be a fun night out for the three women ended in tragedy when an argument ensued between the cousins over family-related matters.

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Brig Hlulani Mashaba, one of the cousins had allegedly pushed Muleya with an empty beer crate, and she fell to the ground. The next moment, both cousins, who were sisters (aged 40 and 34), allegedly started to assault Muleya, who then picked up a broken bottle and stabbed the older sister in the neck and the other on her hand and shoulders. Both sisters were rushed to the Makhado Health Centre, but the older one, who was stabbed in the neck, succumbed to her injuries upon arrival.

“The incident was reported to the Mphephu SAPS, and the suspect was apprehended at her residence at about 06:00 the same morning. Investigations are continuing,” said Mashaba.

Muleya’s case was postponed to 6 December for a formal bail application. She was remanded in custody.
