Mulamuleli makes it to the final of Miss Congeniality 2023

Mulamuleli Nemanganya, a visually impaired woman from Tshikota, has made the final in the Miss Congeniality 2023 pageant. The 22-year-old comes from a poor background and lives with her family of four, who all depend on her disability grant. Despite her circumstances and being blind, she has many plans for the future and hopes to represent her province in the Miss SA competition one day.

“I am living with a disability, but it doesn’t mean I am not able to achieve my goals. I feel our province still lacks when it comes to empowering women and people living with a disability, which is why I encourage women and disabled people to take a stand for what they believe in and support each other. In order to be successful, we need the support of our families to help encourage our talents through art and culture,” she said.

Mulamuleli added that parents with disabled girls should be more open-minded about the modelling industry. “Parents can help them become influential individuals by motivating them to follow their dreams. This will, in turn, have a positive influence on the high unemployment rate as these children will play a vital part in creating employment opportunities and growing the economy. Not everyone is academically gifted, and parents should understand this and support their children to build on their talents and skills,” she said.

Being selected as a finalist in the Miss Congeniality competition is a very proud moment for her; something many only get to dream about. “Being a finalist is really such a privilege. For me, it is a great opportunity to showcase my capabilities, and it gives me the chance to learn and explore more. Winning this competition will actually be a dream come true and a chance to prove that it is possible to become anything, regardless of where you come from,” Mulamuleli said.

The crowning ceremony will be held in Thohoyandou on 9 December, and she has a lot to feel excited about. However, she is still looking for sponsors to help her with the necessary costs in preparing for the big day, such as a dress, transportation, and hair and make-up, which amount to around R4,000.
