Limpopo police seek assistance to crack 2018 murders

The Limpopo police are appealing to anyone with information about the brutal killing of a couple in the Saselamani policing area in 2018 to come forth and assist in their investigations, also assuring the families that the case has not been closed and forgotten.

Ms Aifheli Mudau (30), known to everyone as Dakalo, from Tshitereke Dzungani, and Mr Elekanyani Mahwasane (30), a taxi driver from Khubvi, were allegedly hijacked at Makonde in 2018. Their charred remains were later found in their burnt-out car.

Another body, believed to be that of one of the robbers, was found a few metres from the wreck.

He was suspected to have been seriously injured when the car they were using overturned, and he could not run away from the scene. The riddle of this body remains unsolved to this day.

More than five years have passed since the incident, and the families of the deceased are still waiting for the police to make an arrest, so that they can find closure at last.

Mr Ernest Vhusani Tshivhule, a nephew of the late Mahwasane who is also from Khubvi village, said the killings still haunted the family, especially since the killers had not been brought to book and were still roaming the streets. “The incident happened more than five years ago. The fact that the killers are still at large after all this time does not sit well with us and we would want to see justice being served. We had hoped that the killers would be arrested by now. The worst part about this case is that the investigators assured us that they had identified one of the killers, who is a local criminal and known to the community, and that an arrest was imminent, but this has not happened. We need an update on the case,” he said.

Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that the case was still being investigated and that no suspects had been arrested so far. “Our members of the Organised Crime Unit are still on the lookout for suspects. Anyone with information is urged to contact Lt-Col Rodney Ndou on 082 807 2666, their nearest police, the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111, or the MySAPSApp,” he said.
