Tributes pour in for philanthropist who dies in car crash

Tributes began pouring in after the news broke of the death of philanthropist and community builder Mr Tshilidzi Musingadi. The 45-year-old resident of Tshidzini village, just outside Thohoyandou, died in an accident on the D523 (Khalavha) road between Nzhelele and Sibasa on Monday (26th).

Among his other roles, Musingadi was a director of the Punda Ria Investment Group. He was passionate about conservation and was the main sponsor of the 2024 Wetland Day Celebration, in partnership with the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment, and Tourism (LEDET), the University of Venda, and the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM). Musingadi played a crucial role in establishing and driving the Lake Fundudzi Development Project.

The launch of the 2024 Wetland Day Celebration took place on Tuesday, 27 February, at Tshiheni village, but it had to proceed without Musingadi.

The spokesperson for the University of Venda (Univen), Dr Takalani Dzaga, expressed sadness at Musingadi’s death. Univen partnered with him in the Vhavenda Heritage Project.

The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality, Cllr Freda Nkondo, was the keynote speaker during the Wetland Celebration Day in Tshiheni village on Tuesday. She used the opportunity to express her heartfelt condolences to Musingadi’s family and colleagues.

A family spokesperson and younger brother of the deceased, Mr Fhatuwani Musingadi, announced that he would be buried at Tshidzini’s village graveyard. Funeral proceedings will start at his homestead at about 6:00 on Saturday, 2 March.
