Taxi owner gunned down and robbed

A 33-year-old taxi owner was shot and killed at his home early last Friday morning. The deceased, Muvhuso Justice Mbaimbai, stayed at Ha-Mutsha Tshirangadzi.

According to the acting communications manager of the SAPS in the Vhembe District, W/O Vuledzani Dathi, a minibus taxi was also taken during the incident. He said that the police had received a call in the early morning hours to report a murder case. Upon arrival at the scene, officers found the deceased lying in the street just outside his yard.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect had called the deceased by name. Upon exiting his house, the victim was shot and then ran into the street, screaming for help. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The suspect fled with the deceased's vehicle, a white Toyota Quantum with registration number HBB 921 L. Mr Mbaimbai was a taxi owner whose vehicles travelled the route between Tshakhuma village and Thohoyandou.

W/O Dathi urged anyone with information that can assist the police in locating the suspect to contact Investigating Officer Sergeant Munyai Ndanduleni at 082 319 9622.
