Man on the run after 14-year-old cries rape

A jilted man is on the run after allegedly raping his former underaged girlfriend. The ordeal, during which the 14-year-old was held captive for two days, happened at Khwekhwe Hamutsha in the Levubu policing area between 16 and 18 March.

Ironically, the incident follows on the heels of yet another multiple-rape incident over the weekend, where three girls were raped by a man who offered them a lift at Tshakhuma, which is also within the Levubu policing area.

The sequence of events in the latest incident is that the girl attended a soccer game at the local show grounds. Limpopo police spokesperson Col Malesela Ledwaba confirmed and elaborated on the incident.

“The harrowing incident occurred around 10:00 while the girl was attending a local football match at the show grounds. The perpetrator, who was identified as her former boyfriend, forced her to his home, where he repeatedly raped her. The traumatised victim was eventually released on 18 March,” he said.

According to Ledwaba, upon reaching home, the girl confided in her aunt, who promptly assisted her in reporting the crime. A case of rape was opened, and the police are working tirelessly to apprehend the wanted suspect. Ledwaba further indicated that the case had been handed over to the Thohoyandou Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit for further investigations.

He appealed to community members with information that can assist in the swift apprehension of the suspect to contact Det Sgt Manthakha Khorommbi at 060 770 0002, the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or alternatively utilize the MySAPSApp.
