Reward for United Brothers

 

Munangwe United Brothers were crowned the 2017 Boy Nemakonde KO champions at the Tshifudi Stadium last Saturday. They beat Tshaulu Hungry Lions 8-7 in the final. The winner was determined through penalty shootout after a 3-3 full time draw.

 United Brothers were presented with R10 000, a floating trophy, 11 pairs of soccer boots, a soccer kit and six soccer balls during a ceremony held at the stadium shortly after the final whistle. The runners-up, Tshaulu Hungry Lions, took home R1 500, soccer kit and six soccer balls. The third-placed side, Madandila Happy Boys, received R1 500 and six soccer balls. Happy Boys beat Lukalo Hotspurs 3-2 in their losers’ final match at the same venue earlier that day.

The remaining teams were each given a consolation prize of two soccer balls. Eight teams, Tshaulu Hungry Lions, Munangwe United Brothers, Buluni Happy Boys, Madandila Happy Boys, Dimani Young Masters, Lukalo Hotspurs, Mubvumoni XI Arrows and Mushiru Going Tigers, took part in this year’s tournament.

The Rastafarian striker of Hungry Lions, Rudzani Seaneo, received two awards during the ceremony. He was nominated the best player in the tournament and was also the tournament’s top goal scorer. He received two trophies and an amount of R2 000 for his achievement. He scored three goals in the tournament.

Hataluli Mathavha of Munangwe United Brothers received the goalkeeper of the tournament award during the ceremony. He was presented with a trophy and R1 000 cash.

During the ceremony the sponsor, Mr Boy Nemakonde, said that he would continue to sponsor the tournament in coming years and that the sponsorship amount would increase over time. He praised the players for demonstrating a spirit of fair play throughout the tournament.
