Eagles and Brooms in draw

Maebane Young Eagles played their hearts out to hold Makhitha up the brooms to a 4-all draw in their MMK Administrators league match at Makhitha on Sunday.

The match started at a fast pace, with both sides threatening to be the first to hit the target. Brooms opened the scoring in the 10thminute. Eagles' keeper, Matwatse Marakalala, was left flat-footed by Lloyd Maluleke.

Eagles missed a fortune in the 12th minute, when a header by Justice Mametja went a little wide.

Brooms then scored the second goal through Thuso Mudau. He received a neat pass from Derick Makhubele and released a powerful shot from the edge of the box to bring the score to 2-0.

Shortly thereafter, a defender of the Brooms handled the ball inside the penalty area and the referee pointed to the white spot. Humbulani Managa scored from the spot.

In the 34th minute, Lloyd Maluleke grabbed his second goal and the third goal of his team, after he headed in a free kick by Thabiso Makatu. Moses Rambau of Eagles scored his team’s goal from a free kick to make the half-time score 3-2.

The match turned lukewarm early in the second half. This was influenced by the fact that both sides were holding onto the ball for too long. Eagles scored their fourth goal when Thuso Mudau tried his luck from outside the box. The celebration was, however, cut short when Edzani Moshapo scored his team’s third goal.

Humbulani Managa of Eagles scored the equaliser when he received the ball from the centre line and ran straight to the stranded keeper to beat him easily late in the match.
