Soccer festival at Rabali Stadium

 

The Rabali Stadium will be a hive of activity this weekend. That is where the semifinals and final for the Vhembe Mayoral Cup Tournament will be staged.

The semifinal matches will be played on Sunday while the final will be staged on Monday.

Tshakhuma RO Nandilani FC will meet Mpheni Home Defenders in the first semifinal, which is scheduled to kick off at 13:00. Tshakhuma beat Mukula Young Santos 2-0 in their quarterfinal match at the Makhuvha Stadium last Wednesday, while Home Defenders’ way to the semis went via Mashamba Benfica, whom they crushed 3-0 at the same venue.

Berea FC and Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions will lock horns in the second semifinal later in the afternoon.

The semifinals for the ladies’ category will also be staged at the same venue. Shayandima Morning Stars will take on Tshandama Ladies in the first ladies semifinal while Chippas United Ladies will entertain Maindis in the second semifinal. The winners in the semifinals will meet in the final the following day.

Monday’s programme will commence with the losers’ final match for the ladies at 09:00. The men’s losers final match will follow soon afterwards. The ladies’ final match is scheduled to start at 13:00 while the main match is scheduled to start at 15:00.

The champions in the men’s category will take home R30 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The runners-up will receive R20 000 and silver medals. The third- and fourth-placed sides will receive R15 000 and R10 000 respectively.

The teams booted out of the tournament in the quarterfinal stage will each be presented with a cash prize of R5 000, while the remaining teams will each go home with a cash prize of R2 000.

The champions in the ladies’ category will receive R10 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The second-placed side will receive R50 00 and silver medals, while the third- and fourth-placed sides will receive R3 000 and R2 000 respectively.

Individual awards will also be presented to the top goal scorers, best goalkeepers and the best players in the tournament.
