Brothers crowned as the new champions of Mayoral Cup

Tshino Village Brothers were crowned as the new champions of the Makhado Mayoral Cup when they beat Mashamba Record Breakers in a penalty shoot-out at Tshakhuma on Saturday.

After normal playing time, the score was locked on 1-all.

Both sides played attacking football in the first half, making the match entertaining to watch. Breakers did not lose their fighting spirit, although two of their key players, Tshifhiwa Ndou and Lutendo Ndadza, were cautioned with yellow cards in the 12th and 14th minute respectively.

The wheel of fortune turned against Breakers in the 26th minute. Their defender, Gundo Ramshi, failed to stop the ball and Madzena Munyai of Brothers scored easily.

The Mashamba boys were led by their midfield linkman, Robert Musandiwa. They raided the Brothers’ danger area continuously, but Lady Luck was not on their side. They tried to walk the ball into the net, but the Brothers' defence was rock solid.

In the second half, the Breakers introduced Miyelani Hlongwane for Rofhiwa Mashamba. His introduction did not change the complexion of the match and the game finished without any more excitement. The equaliser for Breakers was scored by Tshilidzi Mulaudzi from a free kick.

After the goal, Breakers regrouped and started to dictate terms.
